Hi
Any help appreciated. I have just purchased a new to me 2007 Toyota Amazon Uk edition. It was to replace a 98 Jap import.
Problem arises in that the engine warning light started to come on about 5 months after I bought it. Normally it happens when I am towing a trailer. If I put the revs above 2000 rpm for longer than about 30 secs then the light comes on. If I turn car off and on again then light goes of and we are back to square one. It has happened a number of times but each time turn off and on again and all seems okay. Also on start up there is a good cloud of white smoke that comes out the back however if I let the cars heat up for a minute then it reduces greatly the amount of smoke that comes out.
The jeep is a work vehicle so tows a lot but never really massive weights.
I have done a lot of reading on the ignition plug problem but I think the 07 model was okay?
Other option is that the turbo could be gone but how does one tell?
Garage says it might be an engine rebuild or a skim of the heads but hoping its not a rebuild.
Thanks in advance
Concerned from Ireland  |

Read the fault codes on the system (ideally when the yellow engine light comes on) and this should hopefully give you a clue.
PS: Never call a LC, a Jeep!!! |

For future reference, always tell us the engine size and mileage.

HI Lads
Sorry for lack of info its a 4.2 diesel with roughly 100,000miles on the clock so just about broken in.
@Edward fault codes are very general and vary between engine and turbo I was wondering if anyone had the same problem so I could get info on what works. 2 of them relate say talk to a mechanic and the last say the turbo is belong overloaded so I think this might be the issue
@joinerman sorry do you have any idea what the thread was called so I can look it up.

I assume joinerman looked at the time of the enquiry and took it as the year

From what you describe, my guess is it the turbo. Best to get it checked by a Turbo specialist. |
