Hi all
Stopped at the garage to get a coffee in my 1995 landcruiser 80 series and tried to switch the engine off but the starter kept running turning the engine over, only way to stop it was to disconnect the batteries, probably drove for a couple of miles like that before I stopped and the motor was very hot. Took the motor off and took it apart, all seemed OK. Upon trying to restart all was dead apart from the hazard warning lights came on and wouldn't switch off. Eventually managed to get it to crank over by hot wiring to the solenoid but the engine failed to start and it usually fires instantly. Some of the ignition pre check lights aren't illuminating either. Tried bump starting down a hill today but without success. Had a similar over running problem 10 years ago and a new starter motor and starter solenoid cured it, I'll try a new motor but I'm not sure that's the total problem. Any thoughts? Regards. R |

It would help if you told us if it's petrol or diesel. _________________ It's Not a Bl**dy Jeep it's a Landcruiser

Well no reply, but I notice that you say batteries so will have to assume that it's diesel, and if that is correct then have a look at the 24 volt change over relay under the battery tray, these corrode and some times get stuck. _________________ It's Not a Bl**dy Jeep it's a Landcruiser

Hi all
Yes it's a 4.2 diesel. Could completely disconnecting the batteries have activated the immobiliser? I have not been using the key fob for years.
Thanks for your suggestions |

Hi, hopefully all sorted, new starter motor fitted, disconnecting the batteries accidentally activated the immobiliser which I haven't used in years. Found the key fibs and switched it off. Thanks for your assistance. |
