I'm after a bit of advise please.
The 2004 LC5 I bought a couple of months ago has had the rear suspension airbags replaced with coil springs. However, rather than buying the "kit" from Rough-track / Milners etc. just the airbags have been replaced, leaving the magic shock-absorbers still fitted and plugged in. As there are no dash warning lights showing, I assume that part of the system has been disabled as per the kit instructions?
One of the rear shock absorbers is corroded and will need replacing before the next MOT in December. There is no point in replacing it with one of the electronic units, so my plan is to replace both rear shocks with the Pedders units (or similar - the car is more for occasional towing of a vintage car rather than off road stuff)
My question is - As the airbags have already been removed, is it OK to just change the rear electronic shocks with standard units rather than have to do the fronts as well? (I assume / hope that the warning light disable is done when the airbags are removed rather than the shocks which are still connected.)
Thanks in advance... |

Hi Colin
My rear shocks were corroded and I just cut the wires at the shocks, leaving the wires into the connectors in case I wanted to replace with OEM later and replaced them with standard non adjustable ones. I still have the air suspension working and no warning lights. I don't think they make much difference. normal pair of shocks were about £50 rather than £600. I dont think the shocks are able to send any fault code to the ECU.

Thanks Mike,
This is a big help - I guess this means that it is the compressor / actuators that deal with any fault codes, so assume when the airbags were replaced that part of the system would have been disabled.
Thanks again.
