Hi all.

My 1993 LJ78 2.4 Auto has developed a gearbox issue.

It started refusing to shift up to the higher gears but, instead either hanging in a lower gear while the engine revved its nuts off or shifting up but then back down again.

Initially I thought it might have been the kids plating with the ECT power button but it wasn't just that.

Eventually we sussed out that it was only happening when the vehicle is warm. The first 20-30 miles it's usually fine but then it starts playing up. Unfortunately all this happened whilst we were on holiday in Orkney. When we headed back to Aberdeenshire it got about 50 miles, driving fine, then failed. Had to get a long, convoluted, recovery home along with 4 kids and the dog and all our camping kit.  Sad

Anyway, my mechanic reckons there's a speed/rev sensor that must be playing up when the temperature increases. My question is where is this likely to be located and where can I get a replacement? Assuming this is the cause.

Thanks.

Well, changed the ATF and the problem seems to have gone away.

Driven it over 100 miles on 2 separate journeys and no issues.  Very Happy
