I have disconnected the belt from my air con pump, the top one, as when you turn the aircon button on it seizes tight and the belt starts squeeling round. I've had someone look at it briefly who said I need a new pump. But do I need a whole new pump or maybe just the bit that the belt runs over? I don't want to spend a fortune as I want to sell the vehicle, year 2000 4.2L amazon. Thankyou.. |

Hello,
as a former factory and vehicle a/c engineer I'd say that your compressor has seized, it gets worse, the likelihood is that the compressor has also self destructed and sent steel/aluminium through the whole system. Replacing the compressor with a very thorough flush and changing the filter/dryer is the only course of action I'd take. You should take it to a reputable vehicle a/c specialist for a hands on diagnosis and not one of these fly by night squirt and run merchants such as halfords or Quick Fit. Most of them don't know the difference between suction superheat and the front bumper. Good luck,
