|
|
my stack pipes have rusted off level with the tank so o can't just put some rubber hose over them. no one seems to sell the stack pipes separately though! and even if I could find them, getting the old one out is going to be a painstaking process as the tiny bolts are all rusted solid.
so any ideas? or does anyone have a complete tank for sale? cheers |

Are you talking about the inlet and return, or the filler pipe.
There is a 70 breaking on e bay, look at number 322536252544 _________________ It's Not a Bl**dy Jeep it's a Landcruiser

There are a lot of pipes coming out of your tank and some are superfluous!
On the basis that a new tank is about 700 euros you are going to have to repair what you have got. You may find a second hand unit but the chances are it will be no better than the one you have.
First thing is to remove the tank and this is best done when it is empty!
I suggest you wire brush the whole of the outside, an angle grinder with a wire brush is best. If there are signs of serious corrosion, repair as needed.
You obviously need the filler tube, the return pipe and the vent tube. The vent tube goes from the tank to the top of the filler pipe. You can see it if you look down the filler pipe. It's the little pipe can exits into the filler pipe close to the cap. This pipe vents the tank when you are filling it so you can fill it to the brim and also allows air back in as you drive along. The supply tube is incorporated into the fuel gauge sender unit.
When I repaired my tank I scrapped all the other pipes!
All of this is from memory so if anyone has other ideas, now is the time to type.
If you need to braze a new pipe into position then extreme caution is required. You must kill any diesel in the tank. A hose pipe and lots of water with plenty of detergent is a good start.

I was thinking using a Colorado pickup pipe set (hopefully the same depth)
and just cutting it into the same size as the lj70 one and re drilling the screw holes. |
