Hi Guys.....I think i know the answer before asking but !!!
I bought a Hub Seal Kit including Wheel Bearings for my LJ70 circa 1988 from e bay. After installing the UNBRANDED new Wheel Races and Bearings i cannot get the Pre-Load of the Hub to within the specified 0.6--3.9Kgs , closest i can get is 10Kgs without any play in the Bearing. Before i order a new set of OEM Bearings i thought i would ask for suggestions....Please keep any suggestions Clean !!!!!

Play should not be present. Pre-load is just that, a load on the bearings that eliminates all play in the hub but still allows rotational movement.

Where did you get the 0.6 - 3.9kgs settings from?

Roger

ps Unbranded bearings are ALWAYS a bad idea. A reputable manufacturer will stand by their product and put their name on the item.

Hi Bazz.

The Toyota manual RM183E gives different figures. I suggest you use 2.8 - 5.7 Kg for the preload. Use a spring tension gauge on one of the wheel studs and set to pull when the gauge is at 90degrees to the stud and the centre line of the hub.Rotate the hub before you start to reduce stiction.

Roger

ps File a notch on the ends of the circlip to allow circlip pliers to engage.
