Don't normally post here, so would welcome any advice on some basic troubleshooting before resorting to a dealership visit.

Problem is with my 2007 J120

First noticed this afternoon when I used the key button to unlock/disarm the vehicle, the alarm activated and couldn't immediately be turned off. I relocked the car with the the button and unlocked it again. All good but odd, I drove home. The entire event was maybe 10 secs of struggling with the key buttons.

This afternoon when going out on an errand same thing happened again but was more difficult to turn off. Could only be silenced (eventually after much fiddling) by re-arming, but as soon as I try to disarm the alarm goes off again. In it's full panic/un-disarmable/alarm sounding state the locks seem to be rapidly locking/unlocking. Eventually used another car.

Even with the alarm sounding, I am able to use the key to start the car, so the engine is running with the alarm still sounding! Immobiliser unactivated or not working.

A couple of times I've thought I had it working again, but after being armed for over 30 seconds (after the alarm is actually active and red light flashing) as soon as I try to unlock the alarm goes off again and can't be silenced for some time. Eventually disconnected both batteries for the night, but there is obviously a battery operated siren in the back because it continued sounding for another 10 minutes even with both batteries disconnected.

So, as I said, this may well be a dealership issue, assuming I can even get the car to them, but I was hoping that someone on here would have an idea what's going on or where to start looking.

Many thanks in advance. Jon.

I've done some reading, although can't find anything that sounds the same, I have learned that immobiliser is seperate.
Door locks and immobiliser are clearly being deactivating, maybe this is as simple as alarm refusing to deactivate with everything else.
I'll do some more troubleshooting when I get a chance, some pointers on where the sensors and alarm ECU are would be great.
Does the alarm use the same door sensors that activate the internal lights? Also couldn't see a bonnet sensor last night, will look again.

Not sure on this model, but the door switches will be connected and then you will have sensors around top corner of windscreen, also I think the key has a chip to activate the immobiliser.

ECU at a guess would be behind radio or in centre console.

You may also want to disarm the interior sensors, push the button in by the interior mirror. That would at least eliminate part of the system.

Thanks for the help, I'll take a look at that later today. Full troubleshooting may have to wait the weekend, I'm thinking of disconnecting the horns before I reconnect battery.

Interior lights working on each door? therefore proving the door switches are all good? Can't remember if the bonnet has its own switch.

Also have you popped a new battery in the fob to double check the cheapest and easiest possibilities.

Does anyone know if the 'Theft warning module' on a 2007 J120 also manages the immobiliser?  Can it be replaced without re-programming car or keys?
To put it another way does replacing this need a dealership visit?
