Hi, as the title days
Reverse gear blows fuse
First
Uk spec 2000 amazon vx auto diesel
Symptoms
Selecting reverse blows the 15a fuse that controls the dash gauges and is located in the passenger foot well, its uk so thats on the left and is marked gauge .
Began and now deteriorated quickly.
Fuse blew on reversing
New fuse, ok for a few days
Fuse blew again, replaced fuse
Fuse then blew every time reverse selected.
Removed fuse and removed both reversing bulbs.
Multimeter in 1 fuse blade gives 12v to earth
Multimeter in other fuse blade gives continuity bleep (short to earth) when gear selector moved to reverse. SUSPECT THE SWITCH FAULTY ?
Surely the short must be either in the switch or the wiring after the switch ?
Next i moved the gear selector back and forward and i get intermittent short on another gear. SUSPECT THE SWITCH ? It should only short on reverse ?
Next i select reverse and thump the top of the gear lever with my hand.
Result is i get intermittent short.
Next i select drive and thump the lever with my hand.
Result is i get another intermittent short.
In fact thumping the top of the gear lever in any gear gives the same intermittent fault.
Surely the fault MUST be the switch or something vibrating very very close ?
Any thoughts, any advice ?
Help needed....
Where is that darn switch ?
Is it in the car or under the car ?
I lifted the plastic trim round the gear leaver and i cant see anything electrical connected to the gear lever (except the od button)
MUST BE UNDERNEATH ?
Anyone got a picture of the switch ?
Anyone replaced one ?
Anyone know what the switch is called ?
Anyone had similar problem ?
Was it the switch ?
Could the switch be shorting internally ?
Any advice, suggestions short of a match greatly appreciated
Thanks
