my Colorado was not accelerating when the throttle was depressed; if you jiggled the throttle it would then accelerate, and/or you had to wait 5 seconds.  had the pedal sender and the throttle body replaced (and the inlet manifold decoked) + some faulty sensors replaced but the problem randomly persists
And when driving yesterday at 60 to 70 mph on a relatively level motorway after about 2 hours it changed down from 4th to 3rd.  over the next 150 miles it would randomly drop down to 3rd. sometimes by accelerating then backing off the throttle completely persuaded it to change up to 4th.  other times I had to slow to below 50mph then accelerate to 60mph so it would change up to 4th at the usual 55mph.

garage and I are stumped; I suspect an intermittent electrical fault but we don't know what to look at first - any advice would be greatly welcomed please

now done 280k miles with no previous electrical faults

forgot to mention got a 3lt diesel D4D engine.  gear leaver has an overdrive button which I have never had to use in past, but the first time it changed down, pressing the button off then on again persuaded it to change up to 4th
