Are there any kniwn issues with the Autobox on these vehicles?
Many thanks! |

No, not that I know of, the 5 speed imo is a better box, but the 4 speed was also in the 80 series, so it's well proven, but as with everthing, if it's well maintained then it will last for ever (after all it is a Toyota), but the proof will be in the pudding.
one good thing about the four speed, it's got a dipstick (Rodney), if you've bought it by now, and you have any concerns about the trans, change the oil, do not flush, just change as much as you can, it's much easier to change on the 4 speed than the 03 and later 5 speed.
130,000 is not many miles (engine only just run in) for a LC of that age, but you dont want to flush all the trans oil out, as the old oil is more grippy, and new is more slippery, auto trans rely on a certain balance of slip and grip, and as they age if you replace all the oil by flushing you might get to much slip and not enough grip. Comprehendo
I think I'd more concerned about rust/rot in hard to see places, surface rust is not a problem especially on the chassis, unless it's been used for slipping boats (salt water), I can tell you more about notable rust traps on the 100 if your intrested. _________________ I love my country, but I fear my government. Forgot to say, hopefully I'm not teaching you to suck eggs, don't forget to check the trans fluid via dipstick with the engine running and the trans fluid warm/hot, but not to hot, just go for a road test then check the trans fluid againt the hi-lo marks on Rodney. _________________ I love my country, but I fear my government.
