Hi Dudes and Dudettes

I'm Topper, and new to the forum.

I've been a long time LandRover owner, Disco 2, Range Rover P38, Defender 110, Series 3 so know a thing or two about off-roading and modifying Landies but the wife and I are about to start a bit of Global Overlanding. Our first BIG trip is scheduled for Namibia in February / March next year, with the vehicle being shipped from the UK.

I have an initial budget of circa £10k, which will include any initial mods / mechanical work etc. More money will be available over the months prior to actually taking on any big adventures.

I already own a roof tent.

By all accounts the 80 Series (VX(?)) is the most capable for overlanding and there are a couple of examples for sale currently in the UK for under £10k, but this will only leave me an initial pot of circa £1-£2k for any initial work that needs completing.

On the other hand a lot of people successfully overland with a 100 series (Amazon(?)) and these, certainly at an entry point are more affordable.

With the 80 I get a bit more prestige (?), a better vehicle (?), and with the ceiling price for these being significant I could mod the 80 and ultimately not lose every £££ put into it.

The 100 thought, with it being cheaper means I could initially buy a good vehicle and get it fully serviced / checked over and still have cash for suspension, storage etc etc

What would you guys and girls do?

How many miles are on the 80's you're finding for under 10K?

Dont forget the 90 and the 120
