Has anybody out there got a cunning plan for what to do with dashyboard fascia cracks on my 2006 Prado? I imagine some kind of black silicone stuff might be forced into the cracks and as long as it is wiped off clean and flush might look better than a crack?

Flock ? Do not know what that means . I spray mine once a year (should do it more often here as its so sunny ) with dashboard and vinyl protector , but not had mine have any cracks . I have seen 120s dashboards for sale on aliexppress for about 500 euros .

Dash mats help, obviously no good if already cracked.
If your dash is cracked, it's already flocked, lol.

Tony, I think flocking, is that spray on coloured furry stuff, and maybe dash would need to be removed for spraying that.

Ha never heard of it tractionman 😀 , I have seen people here have their dashboards covered in leather or what looks like leather .

Having said that I had someone make me a real leather cover for the centre box armrest , it was a bit of a faff fitting it as I had to take all the sliding mec apart and refit to fit it properly so the edges of the leather was fitted under it to look factory . It makes the interior look that its made my upmarket , I also shortened the auto gearstick to the same level as the high/low gear stick makes the interior look and feel much better .

Karl and I have leather ? dashmats on ours Tony, stitched and shaped  with all the correct cut outs for vents etc , they work well in keeping the heat off from the sun. From AliExpress.
Cloth ones are available too, but are not so easy to keep clean from dust as the leather?
Also in sunny/hot weather use one of those big internal screen shades and block off front side windows when parked as the sun creeps abound.
I think over here someone like Chips Away do plastic bumper repairs so may do other plastics.

Dash mats are good cheap remedy as a coverup for cracks on the dash . I use one of those cardboard foil foldaway sunshades for the windscreen when I park up in the  sun in carpark's . I once saw on a car tv show it could have been wheeler dealers or car sos or that Domenic car show who had a challenge to get cars at a much reduced price  who used to get crashed cars and fix them by that big guy for people who wanted car models at much reduced prices   some  years ago how they  took a car to a place to fix drilled holes rubbing damage on the dash  of a car and the guy said he fixed holes and cracks as well his repairs were invisible could not tell that there was any damage before the fix .

I use one of those large truck fold up cardboard/foil screens too, the floppy silver ones are useless- suckers dont stick or stick so much it feels like your gonna pull the screen out !

Tony, does your car port offer much protection for lc - no access for it in swimming pool, lol.
I think the dash cracks because the sun/uv hardens it, so it has limited flexibility on such a thin item.

Fred drift here, but still sun damage related, on days when I don't use 120, I have a massive dust sheet that covers it with windows open + smaller sections covering the wheels/tyres. Sun/uv is a killer for rubber as well as plastics as you know.

My old lj78 1992 import, (owned for around 20 years) has the lacquer peeling all over, when paint underneath is sound, I can virtually scrape areas off with my finger nail - time to pass it on says he for the last 4/5 years !
It will outlast the 120 that's for sure, despite all the care and regular, preventative maintenance.

Hi tractionman I have put up a 6m side cloth panel on the driverside of carport to protect the tyres and the side of the car as the sun passes across the car on that side . As for the swimming pool they are a waste of money in running costs in my opinion as ours is a communal pool shared out between 8 villas a company comes 2 times a week to maintain it and with the electric and water costs it averages 3200 euros a year , thats 400 euros each a year and more if any parts need changing like pumps etc and none of any of us use it as all the house owners are old people . My kids use it when they come over to visit . I have seen those leather type dashmats on aliexspress they look very nice and will protect the car very well . I know what you mean about those floppy foil windscreen protectors they are flimsy and when you come back to your car they have unstuck and its fallen off so no protection and all the interior gets redhot .  The foldup hardboard foil ones are much better coz the car sunvisers hold them up .

Same opinion as yours on swimming pools mate, not cost effective for use.

The 'leather' dash mats are good protection as my dash started a small crack in one corner, since then it hasn't spread and no others appeared. I did think abut drilling a small hole at end to stop it creeping.
Not convinced they are leather as described though, but for approx a tenner iirc do a good job and easy to wipe over.

Chinese companys online have a habit of calling leather look vinyl microfiber leather but it does look real atleast .

I have seen some cats with dashes flocked, it is like a spray type substance but when done it makes the dash look like Alcantara/suede.
