Hi Phil
Sorry mate I can't give you much advice from this side of the globe as things are quite different, models, values, parts availability and so on.
What I can say though is regardless of which Landcruiser model you do choose, it won't let you down. I'm on my first Landcruiser, but they've been in the family for as long as I can remember. They just don't die! Well, assuming they're the same over in the UK.
Over here they're either a Landcruiser, or a Landcruiser Prado. Then it's the series, for example, 40, 60, 70 and so on - mines a 70 series by the way.
Cut to the chase, here's a 90 series Landcruiser Prado which would be a good jump from a car without scaring you off:

Another Landcruiser Prado (90 series)

The white truck will set you back NZ$17,500
As mentioned I'm unsure of the values over there, this might comapre as cheap or otherwise. Our values here are all over the show. For example my wagon is a 1994 worth around NZ$13,000. You can get a car from 2004 here for around NZ$9,000. You pay for what you get _________________
