I had my timing belt changed today, with a full service at a non toyota garage owned by a friends father who did the work for me ..i had the belt changed because i wasn't sure of the age of it..and an M.O.T was needed as it just ran out ..
As the mechanic is on holiday now, i don't know if he reset the timing belt interval warning or even if he could ...the timing belt i had on i discovered through invoices i inherited with my amazon was changed at 90,000 miles, so i suppose it needs resetting now as it's now done 120,800 miles and i don't know how to do it ..any help and suggestions   i would be thankful of ..

The mechanic told me i must have a sixth sense as the timing belt was contaminated with oil from the leaking tensioner that he also replaced with a new part from toyota..

all i supplied was the timing belt ..the oil filter..and the fuel filter ..K&N air filter fitted last year ...runs as sweet as usual

I made a note of these details from a web page I found. I think the details are correct. They worked on my diesel.

1. T-BELT MODE DISPLAY

a) With ignition turned ON, using the trip switch (select/reset button) change the display to ODO, and turn the ignition OFF

b) While pressing the trip switch, turn the ignition switch ON and hold it for 5 seconds.

c) Release the trip switch, then press the switch again within 5 seconds.

d) The digital display should change to T-belt mode. The initial display "9"(0,000miles) is displayed (ie. 90,000miles).

2. REWRITING REPLACEMENT VALUES

While in the T-Belt mode, each press of the trip switch will change the displayed value by 10,000miles increments. Once " 9 " (90,000miles) is reached the display reverts back to " 1 " (10,000miles) again. Remember, this setting is the number of miles to be traveled before the light comes on next, and once reset this counter will start from zero.

The timing belt interval for all the 100 series engine variants is 150,000km (max). You can set to 8 = 80000miles to warn that the belt needs to be changed soon.

3. T-BELT WARNING RESET COMPLETION

a) After setting the replacement setting value, hold the trip switch ON for more than 5 seconds then release the switch.

b) Check that the display has now changed back to ODO and that the warning light has gone off when the engine is started.

NOTE: If the T-Belt mode is completed, even though the belt replacement has not been performed, the T-Belt warning IS reset.

I hope this helps

Willy

Thanks again Willy... i followed the instructions and when i got into the t belt mode the number 15 came up on the odometer , i reset the value to 6 presuming this would be 60,000 miles and held in the trip switch as descibed in your instructions and it completed ..I just wondered why 15 came up ..would that mean 150,000 miles ..thats a bit much to wait for a t-belt change interval .. The penny just dropped ...i got it now ..the 15 that came up was the mileage it had to do before the timing belt light came on again ..90,000 + 6,000 resetted last = 150,000 ...so now if i did the test again it should be 180,000 as 120,000 + 6,000 = 180,000  ..i won't do the test tho' as i may do something i don't want like put an extra 6,000 miles on the change belt setting
But saying that, it's a good indicator of how many miles the engine has to do before a belt change is due, for any prospective buyers of secondhand landcruiser amazons   Very Happy
