i have had lots of help and changed a lot that i want to on my amazon, i have found this site very helpful.
thanks,
now i want to find out if it is possible to lower the ride-height of my amazon, i dont go offroad, just love the look of this 4x4, always have. anyway, i have put some tall rims and lower profile tyes (so the overall diameter remains the same) on it a year or so ago and want to know how to go about getting a price on lowering the vehicle so it rides all the time near the 'low' height. i know there will be purists that dont like the sound but i only ever use this driving around town and would like the lowrider look.
thanks,
Bee

I am not in favour of this as it goes against the whole idea of a rough, tough, go anywhere Land Cruiser. However, the big question is whether your car has the self leveling suspension or not?

If it does, why not just use it to set the car body to 'low' when you want to?

If your car doesn't have this then you can lower the front using the adjusters on the torsion bars (below the two front seats under the body). The back end has two big soft coil springs so I suppose you could take an angle grinder to them and remove a coil or two. Ths would lower the ride height and stiffen the rear suspension as well.

I don't know what this would do to the handling as cars normally have stiff springs at the front and soft at the rear. If the other way round, the car feels as if the rear of the car is about to take over, understeering horribly. Removing one coil from each of the rear springs would probably not make the car too nasty to drive.

You might find some shorter rear springs at on of the specialist 4X4 places (Frog Island, etc.) but this is an unusual requirement.

The wheel arch clearance for the standard tyre is pretty large and many people have fitted much larger tyres - that's diameter and width - so lowering the suspension on standard-ish tyres should be possible without causing a problem.

Keep us posted on this development

Willy

The best place to look for lowered suspension is Japan, they also seem to like the low rider look and will even go so far as using LC's for street racing - I've seen Japanese sites where you can get carbon fibre bonets, flaired wheel arches, front and rear spoilers, etc but can't remember the URL, sorry.

Most of the standard suspension manufacturers sold in the UK (like OME, TJM, etc) will only do standard height and lifted suspension.

If you have AHC you have a couple of simple options to experiment with. You can buy an electronic  suspension lock from www.sleeoffroad.com, set the suspension to low and lock it there, or you could adjust the suspension position sensors so that the ECU thinks the car is higher than it really is at normal setting and lowers the car (nothing to buy for this, just some time experimenting). A slightly less simple but more flexible option would be to patch some variable resistors into the sensor circuit and have infinite control of height.
