Thankyou so the chances of my wheels being 7" are pretty slim then?   Joe

The Toyota 6 spoke original equipment alloys only came in one size.

I'm thinking of getting some steel rims for the truck - I know the rim size is 17 x 7.5 inch (I think JJ - is that the offset?)

Anyone know of the exact specification I should search for?

Cheers

Hi Gary,

JJ is the shape of the inside of the bead face.

I am sure I read it some where in 'tinternet.

If you are getting new rims, is it not possible to get 16 inch steel rims? Is 16 inch not a more common size.
I am talking from the point of your trip. I was thinking about it, if I am in the middle of nowhere and need a spare. Which is the easiest size? (This is still on my list of things to research!)

You have to be very carefull in the selection of the 16 inch rim.
I would be surprised if they went over the larger calipers that the 120 series has.
Just going of reports, and my own experience of a little grinding the caliper top and bottom, just to get on aftermarket 17 inch wheels.

Not keen to take an angle grinder to my (new  Wink ) calipers just yet  Laughing

I'll take more tyres then..... Neutral

I remember now reading 'vette's post about the grinding. I don't have a problem with what he has done as it is just smoothing over a ridge (from what I can see)
The Aus one? Looks like they taking a fair amount of meat off there. Don't think I would do that.

As for Mr-T's guys doing it at the dealer - Don't think I would be happy with it. Wonder how much you would have to take off before it is weakened. (I'll sleep sound not knowing the answer to that question :S)

Understood,

I think I took off between 0,5mm and 1.0 mm

I could have fitted a small 10mm wheel spacer, to prevent the rim bolting right up with the seating face of the hub, as the inside of the rim is angled, and the more the rim go's on, the more it would jam onto the caliper.
leaving nice paint marks on the caliper for easy grinding.

I would NEVER go as far as the AUS guiys did.
That would really shit me up every time I tramped brakes.
I was just still fitting a 17 inch rim, OK, it must have been a small internal Dia. rim, but a 16 inch I fear would need surgery in a big way.
