Emile,
I believe one must power it off the reverse light (positive), and negative on the metal body of the car.

What brand are you thinking of buying?

Cobra are good, Meta are good. there are some cheaper ones on e bay however the sensors can be naff on some. BMW dealers use the Cobra ones. I previously had a BMW 5 series and the sensors were good.

Also, try these 'www.visualpromotionsukltd.com'. I've not seen their product however it actually talks. i.e. it speaks the distance: 3 feet, 2 feet, 1 foot, stop'. pretty cool.
