|
With my ear to the ground so to speak, I hear whispers that the shape of the Landcruiser Amazon is going to change for 2007. The box like body look is going to be streamlined somewhat to bring it more into line with other offroaders.
Has anyone else heard similar?

The rumours are that a new LC is definitely due this year.
The rumours seem pretty definitive, and stem from an article in a particular Japanese magazine that is traditionally used by Toyota to leak information about new models. That magazine is supposedly never wrong about forthcoming Toyota models.
Since that article spyshots have been published of a Toyota development car which is widely assumed to be the new LC. The best shots I have seen were taken of a vehicle parked in a hotel car park (in Qatar, I believe). That vehicle looked quite different compared to the current model as it had a significantly different nose and tail treatment, but in other areas bore a definite resemblance to the present vehicle.
Some sources state that the new vehicle is a mild modification of the present 100 series, while others (and these seem to be more authoritative, but who can tell for sure?) state that it is an all-new vehicle. If those stories are true the new vehicle is supposedly going to be the same width as the 100, but 2 or 3 inches longer and with about 4 inches more rear leg room. Engines are due for a very substantial increase in output. The latter two improvements will be very welcome - to me at least!
If the reports are correct, Toyota view the LC as their flagship model and are determined to make the new vehicle the best on the market - and to spend whatever it takes to make it so.
The reports are that production of the 100 will cease in July. The new car, which will be designated as a 2008 vehicle, will go on sale in Japan shortly thereafter, and will be on sale in the USA around October/November time. No word on UK availablitly, but we seem to get new Toyota models very soon after their introduction in Japan so they could be here within a month or two of the Japanese release (assuming Toyota intend to continue selling the Amazon in the UK).
All this assumes, of course, that the rumours bear at least some relationship to the truth - and that the intended release dates don't slip (they often do). |
