Bit of advice required please

I have a 4.7V8 Amazon and have a rattle from the exhaust through a certain rev range (2000-2500)

Had new middle & back box last year , and noise appears to be coming from manifold.

anyone know how easy this is to access/replace as I am under the believe that there are 2 downpipes straight off the engine through the 2 separate cats and then bolted to the middle box.

do i need to replace the cats? or are the downpipes bolted through before they meet the cats?

Any help gladly received

I suggest that you check the heat shields around the catalytic converters first. They are underneath the car, but if they rattle the noise can often seem to be coming from the area of the manifold.

The heat shields are the most frequent cause of rattles because the securing bolts can rust out or the shields can fracture near the retaining bolts. If this is the problem it can be easily fixed with new bolts, or a large jubilee clip in the right place if the shields have fractured.

If the cat heat shields are not the problem take a look at the heat shields around the manifold area and check for exhaust bolts that have worked loose. They are difficult to reach so your exhaust fitter may not have taken a short cut and failed to tighten them fully.

It is extremely unlikely that the cats themselves are the source of any rattles.
