|
|
I've looked into changing the front shocks on my LJ78 and was a bit put off at how difficult it is to get at them! Do you need to unattach the anti roll bar and then jack up on the chassis to allow the spring to decompress, which would then allow you to replace the shock or is this not enough and you need a special tool to compress the spring ?
thanks for any advice
cheers

Ive never done a coil spring landcruiser but the manual says yes to both your questions.
Remove the stabilizer bar and use a spring compressor.
Spring compressors are cheap these days and can sometimes be hired.
When I was young we would jack the axle to compress the spring and then use chains or rope to hold it there, then lower the axle. _________________ 1995 HZJ75 troop carrier

thanks for the info roscoFJ73! indeed to the chain and rope idea! But worth a thought if am stuck. I'll see if my local has a compressor !
Am interested in what manual you are looking at tho. Is it the LJ78 one or just a 70 series general Max Ellery/Haynes type one. I would really like to get hold of one for the LJ78 since Toyota don't supply the UK with these any more they are like gold dust (to me anyway!)
cheers

The manual is the Toyota chassis and body manual, publication RM 183E ,for Europe and General.
It covers RJ7*,LJ7*,FJ7*,PZJ7* and HZJ7*
They come up for sale on Aussie e bay regularly for around $30-40 + plus postage.
It doesnt cover the engine _________________ 1995 HZJ75 troop carrier
