My 55 plate LC3 3.0 D4-D is noisy on the top end when started from an overnight
stop, drive 2-3 miles and the noise goes.

I can park up for 2-3 hours and its fine no noise.

Oil light from cold seems to take 2-3 seconds to go out, after a 2-3 hour stop barely 1 second

Any suggestions.

Had oil and filter change done 1000 miles ago and also had the recall for the injector seals done
at 65,000, its now on nearly 90,000

Hi, Dunk, I had a similar noise with similar symptoms on a previous D4D 90 series LC - it was a small crack in the inlet manifold which sealed itself as the engine warmed up. I never bothered to pay out to get it fixed, as it caused no problem, just rattly.

If it were mine I'd drain the oil and check the gauze filter in the oil intake in the sump.  If that was clear I'd probably not worry about it.

PS. Mine is rattly from cold, but is fine.

Sounds exactly like mine! (2004 lc4) I've had it years, it did it at 70k, and still does it at 120k

Thats just how they are, don't worry Laughing

Thanks for the replies guys.

I put down the wrong mileage, its actually only on 80,000 not 90,000 lol

It's only just started doing this so i'll have to investigate further.

I've been told to replace the oil filter in case it has a faulty check valve so i fitted a genuine
Toyota filter yesterday afternoon, i'll find out in an hour or so if that was the issue. I'm not convinced
but it was only £16 and 5 mins to change so a good place to start, if it's the same then
i'll get the sump off and go from there

Just to add it doesn't make this noise on tick over, it only starts once you pull off
and load the engine, i can't here anything if you just raise the rpm whilst its parked

I think you may be able to see it through the oil drain hole.  Don't know if you need an endoscope.

Thanks for that, i've not been out in it yet this morning so don't know if the filter has made any difference.

It would appear that fitting a genuine filter has solved the problem.
