For those who have seen my other post, I have tried and failed to get a replacement ecu for my 78. I have got a surf ecu but that plays up auto trans gear changes.

I can easily get hold of a gearbox from a surf - how hard would it be to swap the gearbox in the 78 with that from a surf so that I can use the ecu that I have?

Why not get the ECU repaired.

The surf T-box has a central output shaft to rear axle whereas the KZJ78 has an offset rear axle diff. The g/box may be similar but it's a point you would need to check.
