Yes, 2 batteries wired in parallel. 2X 750 CCA = 1500 CCA. Will burst into life in temps way below freezing or after a long stand.

Excellent. Land Rovers designed down to a budget, not up to a level of quality.
That's why in general they are weak & fail all too easily.

Landcruisers are solid engineering and just keep on going. Smile

Thanks, Chris. That's a lot of CCA. I'd probably use Odyssey's, if I replaced them.

I think you're probably right about Land Rover.

Yeah, sorry about that.
My step Dad swears by them. Disowned me for few months when I bought Landcruiser not the green oval.

Did point out that all too many caravan holidays (try 6 out of 10) did end by travel home via RAC low loader.

Seen many a RAC, AA, National Breakdown van attend Land Rovers on sites.

I guess its "Once bitten, twice shy".

Still, seem to get all sorts @ the garage for repair these days. Only my own Landcruiser though. Rear brakes pads next. Brembo for £22 full set. Nicely done.

After a string of Land Rovers, latterly 3 300 series Discoveries, the last being a Japanese spec 300Tdi auto (OK actually; very reliable and little rust), I've already done what you're intending to do as moving on to a Discovery TD5 and their well-documented issues was a step I simply wasn't prepared to take. Also during this time,  I'd driven 11000km in SW Africa in a Hilux, virtually all off-road, and was extremely impressed with it.

So, earlier this year and after a very long search, I bought a low mileage (102K), 2 owner, manual 2002 Colorado D-4D GX and after 20+ years of Land Rover ownership I have no regrets whatsoever. It's better in every way but parts/ service items are more expensive and it isn't quite as economical - but I knew this'd be the case before I bought it. In any case, the fuel economy difference is really small.

It's a personal thing but I went for a 90 series and not a 120 as I'm not taken with the styling of the newer model. ''The first Land Cruiser that looks like a girl'' as one South African reviewer said.

All being well, I intend to keep it for a very long time.

Good luck with your search.

Hi, Dave.

Thanks for your thoughts. I'm still a bit confused by the different series numbers, but when I have sufficient money, I'm aiming to get a late  (2002?) D4-D Colorado, ideally with Toyota full service history. The Disco 3 still catches my eye, but I think it's time to give another brand a chance, and the Disco 3 is so expensive.

Thanks, again.

Chris.
