If I remember correctly, after fitting an additional interior light on the tailgate a couple of years ago, the earth wire in the loom connects to the tailgate body somewhere round the wiper mounting area and this goes back to an earth point on the main body behind the LHS plastic trim panel in the load area......I think!! _________________ Phil

Thanks Phil,
I had both side panels and panel over wiper motor off last week, i even removed jack housing for clear visibility...no visible ground point. |

On my '95', there is an earthing point just below the nearside rear window:
I don't know about the '80', but suspect it will be similar.

I know it is a long time ago, but did you find the earth point? I have the same problem I think... |

Monster,
Turned out it was a bad connection(s) in the tailgate underneath the wiper motor due to water getting in around the windscreen seal. |
