|
|
Hello all,
back again after a little while - the LC is now back from a baseline service with Julian at OC, and we're going our first family trip with it to France, so thought it's time to re-join! will start a build log as soon as i can.
what are the best / most appropriate bottle jacks for the 80 series, bearing in mind a 2" lift?
i was on Amazon yesterday looking for one, and there was a comment on the Draper one I had in mind to say that it wouldn't be tall enough to change a wheel with a land rover defender, which got me worried...
this is the one:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0001K9U8W/ref=ox_sc_sfl_title_30?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE
so what would you guys suggest?
this is just for highway / tarmac touring, nothing offroad (yet!)...
many thanks!

I would think that a normal/standard bottle jack should work ok, even if you have a 2" lift. Any lift or mods won't alter the height between the axle tube and the ground, providing you're on 16" rims and reasonable tyres.
My 80 has a 2" lift and ( I think) 285 tyres. I have used a standard LC bottle jack to change a puncture on my vehicle with no issues, other than crawling under the car to place the jack... Carry a small groundsheet with your tools 😀 |

Bills comments are correct. Even though you say it would only be for highway use, I recommend you make a plywood base plate approx 300mm sq to spread the load and an axle tube adaptor to locate the ram solidly. This comprises a half moon of 6mm steel bent to the axles diameter welded to a short length of tube that slots over the top of the ram.
