Hi All,
AM deciding between followign tyres

BF Goodrich All Terrain,
General Tyres ST2
Coopers ST or STC
Goodyear AT/SA,

Will be Road Driving, Mud Driving and Gravel Driving

WHich tyres would you guys recomend.

BFG's look the Dog's but will cost you in MPG and Grip compared to a road biased tyre.

General grabber have a replacement tyre for the "AT2" called the "AT" don't make sense i know, but its supposed to be better on road and as good off road and less noise than the AT2 its replacing.

hi the coopers are out of stock and the General Grabbers AT wont be available here in Kneya for atleast a year....

The BF goodrich are quite expensive compared to the General Grabbers and Goodyears.

SO now have to decide between the General Grabbers AT2 or the Goodyears SA/AT (Silent Armour/ All Terrain)

Any Advice which to go for between these 2 would be appreciated.

i've had grabber at2's for the last 2 yrs with no complaints on or off road. (and next to no tyre wear)

Its 12 years since I lived in Kenya.  If you're driving on very bad roads (the italian POW road on the way to Naivasha springs to mind), I'd go for the tyres with the strongest sidewalls - probably the BFGs.

If you're in mud and gravel and OK roads, the AT2 would be a good alternative.

thanks....roads have improved a lot in last few years...the Italian POW road to Naivasha has been completely resurfaced and is now an excellent road to drive on...also most of Nairobi - Msa Road is now done...Nbi - Narok etc...but the rough roads are extremely bad...

Thinking of going for the BF goodrich as although they are a lot more expensive they are available consistently here compared to the others which a lot of times are not available so incase I blow a tyre and have to replace it than would be easier to do so with a BF Goodrich rather than the general grabbers or Goodyear

I have just fitted grabber AT2's - more than happy with them, would have preferred the BFG's but i dont do enough annual mileage (maybe 4500 per year) to make the most of them.

You wont go wrong with BFG's, with the others you might, so go for the BFG's.

BFG's all the way...I dont have them cos of the price but I know many that have that rate them very highly.  I have use the Wranglers SA/AT's and wasn't that impressed by how long they lasted.

Top decision.
More expensive for the initial outlay, but generally they pay dividends in the longer run.

If you were happen to go with the Wranglers, or the AT2, and you cut the side wall open, you would be really kicking yourself for not spending the extra £20 per tyre, and got the BFG.

You would then be driving your LC, just waiting for the next possible tyre mishap.

Hi Vijay,

I am happy you took the BFG advice.
They are not cheap, but well worth it.

The standard pressure is 2 bar, or 29 psi, whatever rocks your boat.
Many have found, now you have gone to thicker side walled tyres, a better all round pressure is 2,6 bar, or 38 psi in old units.

When I used to do long trips, and loaded, I would as high as 2,8 bar or just over 40 psi.

thanks...have now used them for almost 9 Months and they are excellent tyres. I have been filling them with 36 PSI which I found a good compromise for comfort/ fuel economy. I might just try 38 and see how it feels.

When I go offroading (Mainly Masaai Mara) I use 30 PSI just to avoid punctures on the rocks plus better ride and grip through Mud.

Am getting the suspension changed hopefully by first week feb. Am putting TJM Gold XJS shocks and Local Springs. Am removing the Air Suspension at the rear as after my last trip to Mara in December I have had too many issues with it.

Hi Vijay,

Does your LC have the automatic up and down air type of suspension? LC5 i think has it?

I have heard it can be nothing but trouble.
Give me 4 coil springs any day.
I don't know what Toyota was thinking about when they did all that *beep* about the height stuff.
