hey man, theres thousands of 90 series prados lying in scrapyards around the county, and they all have the 1kzte in, besides the d4d ones, which have some other development of the engine. theres bound to be two or three scrapyards with 20 miles of you

what is the vin/chassis number of your car, just so we're clear on which model it is?

whoa. i didnt realise the kzj78 had an ecu, i thought it was the 1kz-t with mechanical diesel pump.

i wonder if its the same ecu as the 90 series? its the same engine. is your auto or manual?

did you compare the parts numbers?

Yup, she is one of the last 70 series and does have the 1kzte engine, but the solenoid on the injector pump is controlled by the EC,U.

I had an ECU from a Hilux Surf with the 1kzte engine in it and it started, which is how I know it is the ECU that is at fault. However, although this ECU starts it and will run up to a certain speed ok, it will not gear correctly, as the gearbox is different in the Surf.

With all of this in mind, I either need the exact same part number item, or a different part number item that will work with my gearbox (which is automatic btw).

Confused

Just one more question Redd, my jeep is a 3 speed auto. Do you know if the 90 series auto is a 3 or 4 speed?? I heard it is 4-speed but am not sure of that is correct. If it is a 3-speed, it would definitely be worth a try.

You could have a go at repairing it, as I have pointed out in this thread http://www.tlocuk.co.uk/forums/viewtopic.php?t=8924 also there are loads of places that will fix it for you, just Google ECU repair.

just checked my ECU and its the same part number as mine 89661-60250 , it would be interesting to know if a 1995 Auto Colorado has the same ECU , therefore i would purchase one from a Breaker yard and keep as a spare just in case ?
