Hi. I have a 1996 Colorado that's done almost 145000 miles. All is good except for the excessive play/slack from the transfer box. This happens every time I switch from drive to reverse or R to D - auto box. It also happens when reapplying power after coasting for a moment. If I'm really gentle with the power application it's ok as it takes upthe 'slack' gently. I've replaced one UJ on the rear prop shaft, the other is good. The UJ's on the front are fine. Whilst the rear prop was off I could turn the output flange by hand so I am pretty certain the problem lies with the transfer box and not with UJ's or the gear box. Has anyone had this issue and how did you fix it? If it means swapping the transfer box out, any ideas where to get one from and at what kind of cost? Are they hard to fit? I'm fairly handy with spanners but have been known to end up with unexpected 'spare parts' after rebuilding complicated stuff. All advice greatfully received.
