I had a set of BFG AT on a 4x4 about 10 years ago and i've now got a set on my LC. As far as i can see the tyre design/tread has not changed in 10 years and i am thinking that maybe the tyre has not been developed and is now out-dated. If i compare this to the GG AT which is a newly designed tyre then would it be correct to say that the GG AT will be a better tyre and more advanced using more modern techniques and testing.
Any comments welcome. |

the BFG is the same because they got it bang on a long time ago, hence the reason there are so many copies including the General
i would say tyre for tyre the only difference will be wear, i am pretty sure the BFG will still outlast a GG, maybe the sidewalls are a little stronger aswell _________________ 1998 Toyota Landcruiser Colorado 3.4 V6 (sold)

I'd agree with the comment - my feeling is the BFG AT are very good at what they do and what they are.
Not all new ideas and things are better than old. _________________ HDJ80, BFG AT's, grooved discs, OME 850/860's |

I woule agree that BFG AT got it right many years ago, and I guess they don't want to mess with some thing that is renowned the world over.
There are many similar tyre treads like the BFG AT, however, If I was going to spend £500 on tyres, then I would save the extra £150 or so, and go with the BFG.
I know they are expensive, and this is a grudge many tyre buyers have. However, you generally fit them once, and thats that.
I thought of it this way,,,,,,,,,,,,,
When your out on the road some where in tyhe UK, and you just happen to get a puncture, it is an inconvenience, and just a hassle to put the spare on.
Out in the middle of Timbuctu or some where, a puncture is more of a hassle.
Then if you had bought the £500 tyres, you would be forever questioning yourself, that if you would have bought the BFG, then perhaps you might not be in this position now of swapping a wheel in the middle of no where.
Just my thought on the price difference really.
I don't believe for 1 minute, the "other" tyres would give the same longitivity as the BFG AT.They are a very slow wearing tyre, and 100,000 miles is not unknown.
