Hi Bob,

Thanks for all your input.
I don't know all of the  history of the car. The records I have show regular service and timing belt and water pump change 10,000 km back.
As you point out the bang was there before the clutch was changed. This tells us that there must be something else involved and it is not directly clutch related, assuming all necessary clutch parts were changed meaning the clutch is working properly.
I'll check the hydraulics and clutch release.

The dash is bit loose I have to say. If I drive off road the dash is moving and shaking quite bit making a rattling noise. There is no obvious play in the dash but with some force I can move the dash quite a bit.
However I don't thing the loose dash is the reason for the bang but it might amplify the sound.

It is a good idea to find someone with experience for this type of car and let this person drive and listen to it. There are quite a bit of Landcruisers around here in Oman.
I just need to find this person and hope he is speaking some English.
I'll report back when I find something.

Holy thread revival but this was an interesting read and just wondering if you ever found the cause of the banging?
