|
|
My Colorado currently has good Cooper Zeons on the front and worn Dunlop H/S's on the rear (it's what it came with). Handling on a rough B road surface is a bit hair raising at times - so need to replace all.
Driving consists the rough road surfaces around where I live (5000 mpa), motorways towing an 1100kg cravan + 300 kg of gear for doing shows and getting of muddy fields. (8000 mpa)
What you fit?
Thanks

There are lots of tyres out there almost as good as BFGs in one respect or another, but nothing that really equals them. They aren't cheap but I wouldn't use anything else. |

Re tyres, from the internet try mytyres.co.uk or blackcircles websites.
Commonly far cheaper than any high street tyre garage, and many tyre garages will fit and balance whatever you bring in for a small cost.
I pay my local place £10 per axle, which includes disposal of old tyres, fitting and balancing.

Bit the bullet and just invested in 4 x BFG AT's from Harolds Tyres Penrith @ £144 each fitted & balanced. They've totally transformed how my vehicle behaves on rough surfaced B roads and lanes around where I live - now it feels completely planted rather than the vague wandering over ruts and bumps previousley experienced.
Thanks for the advice guys

Glad they have made a difference for the better.
I have Dunlop Grand Trek front and Pirelli STR rear, with lots of meat still left on them.
Haven't been in the snow yet with mine, but I bet yours will be AWESOME!
On my shopping list next time I have a spare £576 hanging round...
Want to upgrade rear springs to sit better when towing caravan, better dog guard, better HID headlights, bullbar & a couple HID spots, finally fit CD changer, refurb alloys...
None critical but enough to dream and keep busy...
Ha.

The BFG AT KO work well in colder conditions, I towed a car up a hill in icy conditions, so icy I nearly lost my footing hooking the car up.
It was sleet that had frozen to the ground. |

That sort of traction could be handy as I live 1000ft abocve sea level right on the snow line and already had a light dusting this week _________________ Landcruiser Colorado VX D4D Auto - Cooper A/T3 |

Hi Ray,
I am glad you took the advice, and more glad that you like them.
I think the BFG AT KO, are probably the best improvement you can make on a standard Land Cruiser.
The whole driving experience is changed for the better.
I, like many who have run BFG for years, find that a better trye pressure is around 36 psi to 40 psi.
Can I suggest you try at the minimum, 36 psi, and each month, raise the pressure up by 2 psi all around.
Most of my running is done with just me and her in the LC, and we generally run at 38 psi.
Now you may immediately think that the "ride" is going to be "rock hard".
Just try and see, you will be surprised.
The whole cornering experience is changed, with almost no body roll.

Thanks for the pressures tip. Not sure what the tyre fitter set them at, presuming the settings indicated inside the car door. Very naughty of me...slap my wrist...I should not take for granted that they set them correcttly.
Will check this morning and then adjust as you recommend if differnt.
Thanks

I agree with most people that BFG AT KO are a great tyre, but I have had 2 blowouts on them! A hole in the side wall that you could almost get your head through. If you search the internet other people have had simular problems. The tyres were around 6 and 12 months old when they blew. Pressures were checked regularly and they had not had a hard life. The first blow out I put down to bad luck but the second I went for a warranty claim but before BFG would investigate I had to buy a new tyre from them. No chance, I have been put of them for life.
Ever since I have used Enduro Runway AT tyres. Good grip on and off road including wet roads until they ware down to about 5mm. Last 80000 miles plus before they get to 5mm. Never even had a punture in them.
Next time I might try the new General Grabber AT. Has anyone had any experiance with these tyres?

Fitted AT2's two years/25k miles ago, brilliant
First snowfall day they were fitted (jammy or what!), then we had a few more weeks 'carp' weather winter 2010, but found the whole 'cruiser experience awesome w/proper tyres fitted.
Only use 4wd on icy slopes/the odd wet field, on public roads the tread seems to keep it planted in rwd only.
Cheers
