I have imported a left hand drive GX Prado (2.7 petrol origionally registered in Dubia) I believe the headlights to be original. Does anybody know if the difference between left hand/right hand drive is the bulb or do I have to change the whole unit ? |

If you are thinking of importing a Prado into France permanently and having it registered there, I believe that you will have "your work cut out".
The first thing that you need to obtain from Toyota is a certificate of compliance.
If it came from Dubai into the UK and underwent the correct process, then the headlights and speedometer should have been changed and a rear fog light fitted.
A friend of mine tried to import his Toyota Surf into France but found it was just too difficult.
I should learn to read posts properly, I see that you are already in France, did the Prado come straight to France from Dubai? |

No you are quite right the car came via the UK, I have got it re-registered in France (after 2 years hard work) and got it cleared lights and all, for the Controle Technique (French MOT) but now I have had a new test done they have failed it saying the rules have been tightened up. latest quote for new units, set-up and labour is over 600 euro! |

Can you not use beam benders over there to redirect the beam position
you can purchase (very cheaply) them online somewhere ..worth thinking about
i believe the beam direction is why it failed shining directly into the face of oncoming traffic ..pretty much the same as driving on the left here in uk and encountering a vehicle parked on the wrong side of the road facing you with headlights on ..a damn nuisance ..and a little annoying .. _________________ 1999 Amazon Auto VX 4.2 TD Active |

Beam benders are not acceptable on a vehicle permanently imported into France.
I know of on person who managed to get his registered with beam benders but the car failed the following controle technique and he had to replace the headlamps. |
