Has anyone had a problem with the "fuel filter requires maintenance" message coming up on their diesel v8?
Mine has only done 8000 miles from new and the message and warning light are on. I have cleared the message a few times by following the reset procedure, but it always comes back on after a good run.
The car is only just over a year old and the local dealer serviced it a couple of months ago.
I have it going in to them again this week and they said they would need to inspect it as dirty fuel is the likely problem and they will charge to do the job.
However I was in a different part of the county last week and I thought I would just buy a filter and fit it myself so I phoned a different branch of the same dealership and they said that they were having big problems with the diesel fuel filters of all vehicles made in Japan, although they were not sure about the v8 as they just don't see many of them. They said that this is almost 100% a defective filter caused by the fact that UK fuel is not as good as the fuel available in Japan and they see it all of the time and warranty should sort it out by fitting a filter of a bigger micron value.
I do notice the Australian forums have lots of problems with fuel filters.
Anyone else had this problem?

I took it into the Toyota dealer and they changed the fuel filter under warranty.
They didn't find anything that they could say was a problem and they didn't try and charge for it so they must know something is not right with some of these filters.
