Lately, the diesel consumption of my 2003 prado diesel has skyrocket up to 11.6 or even 12 lts for each 100 kms. Conventional ODB readers can’t read the ECU and the deslership here in Costa Rica charges 190 dollars just for scan the freaking ECU.

Having said that, I have 2 questions:

1 - what may be the common causes in the fuel consumption increase.
2 - is it feasible to install a newer, OBD2 compatible ECU from another 120 prado (2004, 2005) to replace the M-OBD ECU?

Thanks in advance.

Search for "techstream" on e bay. A cable and a CD with the knock-off software is about £20. This will read all your codes, reset codes, tell you if you injectors are pouring fuel into the engine, let you reprogram new injectors, all sorts.

Hi Sheepish. Not sure about the OP, but your post has certainly helped me out, so thanks for that!  thumbleft
