Hello, I am visiting Scotland from the US and wanted to check out what is going on in the cruiser scene while I am here.

I learned all about the immobilizers in the 100 series because I needed keys made for my Lexus LX470 (uzj100). If the immobilizers are the same as ours I can help answer any questions.

To answer the question you asked, yes it is both easier and cheaper to make keys.
First you need to check if the key you have is a master. Watch the security light when you insert the key into the ignition. If the light goes out immediatly you have a master. If it remains lit for a second or two you have a sub key.

Where I am from if you have a master you can order a key blank onlinr and have it cut locally and program yourself  Usually will cost about 30 US dollars.

If you don't have a master it will cost more, but if you are able to solder a chip on a pc board it can be cheap.
