Hi folks
I have a Colorado KDJ95R-GKPNYW and it’s been a fantastic car so far but now getting/got to the point where I need to replace loads of service items, which I’ve already bought. It has done 180,000 miles and pretty much everything (not the brakes obviously) is original.
I live an incredibly busy life right now so I give very little attention to anything other than work. Consequently when the engine recently started making a small but getting louder noise/clatter on the way home one night, I lazily diagnosed it from the cab as the original exhaust finally letting go as it was already blowing a little. The next morning I started the engine in daylight, lifted the bonnet and it was immediately evident it wasn’t the exhaust. I thought it might be big end clatter but as the engine was revved the noise lessened. I took it to my local garage and they’re convinced that it’s not the usual big end, little end type of noise.
They removed the injectors and tested them; they all failed at one pressure with two of them failing at 2 pressure ranges. They are Denso injectors with part numbers 2 of 23670–30020 and 2 of 23670–30010; the difference in part numbers being the electrical connectors on the tops. However I’m getting conflicting advice as to their reparability. I’ve contacted various suppliers with some saying it’s not possible to repair or remanufacture these injectors therefore new ones are the order of the day (Jeez these things are expensive!) to others insisting replacements are strictly on a return old ones for remanufacturing basis!
Can anyone kindly shed some light on this situation please?
Also while I’m here, do I need to change the copper seals for aluminium ones?
Also, has anyone used the company HILUX PARTS SUPPLY CORPORATION LIMITED based in China? Yeah I know China right? The chap says he’s got the injectors in stock for my Landcruiser for a great price but I can’t pay by credit card and must transfer money directly into their account! It smells a little bit fishy me thinks! |

Good morning Joinerman
Thank you for your reply. RVS were not able to help other than to point me in the direction of another company, TT Automotive in Loughborough. I spoke with Keith who kindly gave me the Denso part numbers instead of the Toyota ones.
I don't know whether this will help but at least I should get a definitive answer so thank you.
Kind regards

Hmm, surprised RVS couldn't help, perhaps they are really busy & just offloaded the work. |

Hi Joinerman
To be fair I don't really remember the conversation too well so let me rephrase my statement.
As I live in France and needed the injectors posted to a garage in Central France ASAP, it's entirely possible they thought TT Automotive were better placed to help me.
I'm sure given more time RVS in Swindon would have been able to help me.

I know the post iis old at 2014 but I must congratulate TT Automotive Diesel Specialists of Loughborough UK. I can confirm that they are the most efficient diesel specialists in the UK. They are excellent re efficiency. I had a problem in respect of a Diesel engineering company I took a Toyota 95 series D4D 3 litre engine but they gave me the vehicle back with the same fault.........missing when warming. The garage said it was TT Automotives fault when it was not. They said TT auto gave a report when checking the injectors that 1 was faulty when 2 were faulty! It is a fact that I saw the report that confirmed two were faulty to cause missing but two were within the limits. That report was given to the garage who changed 1 injector only!
I was instructed by the garage to sort it out by contacting TT automotive which is not the correct advice. I telephoned TT Auto to discuss the abominable situation I was in. They were immediately helpful and Ann the customer relations lady told me come and see us tomorrow and bring the injectors in and see Ray who will help me! I had already reluctantly had an electronic diagnosis at the Toyota agents who said injetor 2 was not letting fuel through when warm.
I had only worked on numerous none overhead cam engines before but got the added experience in removing the injectors myself but I am glad I did it. I am confident to carry out any engine work on this common rail engine in the future. At 78 it was most certainly a learning curve experience for me.
TT Automotive's Ray ordered a brand new injector from Holland as there were none in the UK and within 3 days he rang to say he had got it. He also re checked all four injectors and swapped the one they had previously supplied to the garage........ He also charged me 'renovation' price for the brand new injector.......I would never ask any other company re diesel parts........ They are the utmost in excellence and efficiency. I really am appreciative of how they operate. Ray has a great deal of experience and that is the first thing that is required when engineers are in trouble. He obviously knows his 'stuff'. RAY GO TO THE TOP OF THE CLASS. |
