can anyone give advice on wiring the electrics for a tow bar? i'm sure i've read somewhere about the colorado being pre-wired and all you need to do is plug the tow bar wiring loom into it. is this right? if so where do i start looking?
if not any advice would be great.
many thanks. |

If you look at the wiring diagram, the necessary wires all meet in a trailer socket. I'm pretty sure that I found this behind the near side rear panel. A little tricky to get to, although you can get to it, I think, by removing the rear light cluster. I have a picture of the plug - will post later, off to bed. I'm certain that when I looked, all of the right colour wires were in there, but the garage that did the job for the previous owner simply scotched into the wires under the bumper, where they rotted through!

Here you go. Pretty sure that this is it. I doubt that you'll get a plug to fit this, but at least you can remove the plastic bit and make some nice neat, dry connections. Done really carefully you could refit the connectors into a new multiplug from RS or Maplin. I like a proper job.

You're very welcome. Let us know what you find. I'm tempted to rewire my own. I have encased the scotchblocks in plastic boxes and sealed them with hotglue. But they're still very exposed and one of the wires was almost 'bitten' through. Shame to have put 2 new light clusters only to have it fail the MOT because the wire rots. _________________ HDJ 80 but still a 90 owner at heart (yeah right!) |

If you buy wiring kit 00066-01038 it should have all the plugs you need, I have the kit in my garage but it's only for sale with the towbar. _________________ It's Not a Bl**dy Jeep it's a Landcruiser

Job done i had an identical white plug behind the tool box cover. the wires going into it are for indicators, lights and brake lights. i needed to cut the existing plug off and make up my own. i ran the wire from the tow bar along the rear cross-member and through a grommet under the rear left wing this comes up under the metal holder for the jack. i removed this holder (3 bolts) to make access and fiddling about easier. (check out how much space removing the jack holder creates). wired everything up, put it all back together. easy.
total cost; tow bar £50 from e bay inc next day delivery. electrics (single) £6.95 from local hardware store. time; nowt, i'm between night shifts all inc. £56.95.
the local towbar fitting specialist wanted £220 |

I used a toyoya wiring kit but found that the white plug mentioned only has the LH indicator, needed to run extra cable for RH indicator. |

i didn't use the toyota wiring kit but found that the white plug mentioned has both indicators. (bottom row in opposite corners). perhaps i have the optional R/H indicator package |

Excellent well done! Perhaps it's the indicators that are to optional extras (for BMW drivers converting to Toyota) and what you have is the hazard warning lights wire instead - useful for converted Landrover owners Ha Ha.
