I've seen a few mentions about the new car tax rates for 01 April 2009 onwards.  A few people have been asking where they can get the information - it's well hidden on the Directgov website.  Here's the official link:

Prices for 100 series during 2009 - 2010 are:

£440 - 4.7i V8 Land Cruiser @ 387g/km
£440 - 4.2 TD Auto Land Cruiser @ 340g/km
£440 - 4.2 TD Manual Land Cruiser @ 292g/km

The prices increase to £455 in 2010 - 2011


They've taken the date of registration back to 01 March 2001.  I've bought a 6 month tax so I can buy a 12 month tax in October, buys me 6 months at the lower price.  Might be a good idea for you guys to do the same.

looks like the 80's going to be around for a while yet then !!, thinking of selling the wife's supercharged Merc estate and buying a 2000 year VW Passat or the like before everyone wants one ! , she only uses the thing 2 days a week and the odd evening and weekends, so tax and insurance will be the major running cost .

The £950 'first year rate' tax for new high-end 4x4 purchases is pretty harsh also.  What about heavier taxes for the 20 year old cars that pollute ar worse than a new 4x4?
