looks like this was one of two things - they upset him or more likely he could smell some sort of fruit, possibly oranges, and they were probably in the lack bag.
Elephants have been known to trash cars/4x4's to get to oranges - quite a number of attacks in Kruger, they now advise against taking any into the park
Is this available elsewhere but poss more complete?

This was, I believe, in Botswana. Yes, there was fruit involved, and yes, elles loooove oranges!! Unfortunately this ele paid for the tourist's stupidity with his life - he was put down AFAIK. |

The same pictures were posted on Landrovernet about 6 weeks ago.
