If you got the balls (and the money ) you could get 8 coils from a main dealer put them in if they work grate if not take them back and say you made a mistake you didnt need them  Wink

Thanks Leon - love the fact you managed to fight back the sleep enough to get another post in.

Pembrokeshire as in Beautiful South Wales. North Wales is bleak and rocky.

This is really helpful.

Am I going to shock if I confess that I removed the injector cables one by one to get the same result as you did with pliers?

Is this not the done thing?

Anyway, in doing so I found one cylinder's switch off made less of a difference to the rough running that any of the others.

So being a tight (skint) b@£$$rd I think I can only afford to try this one first.

I will try your suggested contact.

Many thanks for this. I have incidentally had the car stall when coasting cold in both petrol and lpg. That is the only difference I can see between what you and I are saying.

well yess you can unplug them instead i just found it more simple to nip the pipes .Mind unpluging the coil packs to find the problem will bring on the fault light in the car and then need reset !! so dont do that  Wink

I only replaced 8 coils coz i had 4-5 broken one's over a month so thought the other 3 probly didnt have long left  Razz
Now you know how to do it it will be easy to find them again if the problem happns again or even it there is a slite missfire when you replace that one

A piont i forgot to mension is am being told to make the spark plug gaps smaller as gas burns slower then petrol am told the gap needs to be made "5 thou" smaller this is  to let it tick over smoother and run beter ...i'v not tryed this my self yet so cant coment on it

I know a guy who has had a LC for 5 years on LPG ( another v8 4.7 ) and both our cars are still a little ruff when cold on gas this seems to be normal

Leon

I contacted Dave this morning thanks. Price as you suggested and a discount for the big 8.

When I was removing leads it was only the lpg injector leads above the inlets. Don't know if that is bad.

Someone has been suggesting I do a cylinder pressure leak test.

Have you ever considered you might have been suffering valve recession?

Thanks again

Sorry. I agree my question was fairly pointless.. I was wondering if recession was one of the things you checked and discounted before coming to the coils.

Some say they have had problems.

Leon et al

How about a car swap?

I singled out the dodgy cylinder as you suggested, and swapped the coil with the next door cylinder. Unfortunately the same cylinder still played up.

So it is seems to discount the coil. It leaves me with either a dodgy injector, pipe into manifold, or valves, would you agree?

I am going to swap around the injectors to see if that is the problem.

So while the coils may be part of the problem they're not the whole problem by any means.

What gaps have you got on the sparks just as a matter of interest?

Am I the subject of a nationwide practical joke I wonder?

Here was I taking my car to a Toyota dealer to get repairs sorted when as it turns out they are completely clueless and know nothing more than their computers tell them.

Wasn't anyone going to say anything?

So having drawn a blank there I took it to a mate who builds racing cars.

He has already diagnosed a problem in the throttle control motor area which has been causing the stalls.

Give him another day and he will no doubt identify the misfire.

Can I take this opportunity to wholeheartedly recommend people don't bother using Toyota main dealers for tricky problems?

More on the misfire later. I hope.
