I have a 100 series turbo diesel landcruiser automatic The idle up switch on the dash only controls the idle speed until the engine is warm can this switch be changed to idle up the engine at any time Any advice would be appreciated thanks

The water temp sensor is a NTC sensor (Negative temperature coefficient) therefore it's resistance decreases as the engine warms up. Therefore you can't parallel a resistor to trick the ECU, you need to add resistance to the circuit. You can do this by installing a switch or relay which disconnects the sensor and switches in a fixed resistance of about 600 ohms. You could activate this relay via your winch isolator, so whenever your winch circuit is on it powers the relay so your idle up feature would work. However you need to understand that doing this sends a false temp signal to your water temp gauge and ECU so I would install a big flashing  LED on the dash so you know the temp sensor is incorrect and you have this feature bypassed.
