The reason is, Simon likes people to use 'Classified Ads' service

See rule 10

So why have a for sale section on here, why not have a direct link instead.

To link to your Classified Ad Rolling Eyes

The point being, this keeps all of the dialogue to do with the sale OFF the forums ... nobody other than the seller/buyer are interested in their private dialogue dontknow

In addition ... you might want to take a(nother) look at rule 3 as well Rolling Eyes - The free services here are intended as a 'bonus' for genuine Club members ... not a free-ads service for you to help sell your mates vehicle dontknow

The rules are in place to deter freeloaders ... genuine Club members have to follow the 'Rules' too - this makes it fair for everybody.

Simon.

I understand about people freeloading and all that, but the classified adds are not looked at as much as the forum, so why not do what other forums do and just have a time limit on adds and have them as read only, then if there is any interest in an item the people contact via PM's.

That's why you can put a link to your Classified Ad in the forums!  So people who browse the forums can see what's listed in the Classified Ads thumbright

It used to be like that ... and it still can be! There's nothing to stop you using PM to discuss the Classified Ad that's linked to from the 'For Sale' section Wink

What I specifically want to avoid is all the clutter & dialogue that comes with 'hosting' the ad in the forums ... It works really well if people actually use it the right way scratch

One of the nice things with the Classified Ads service ... the first seven days are free but, if you want to make a small payment for a higher profile and/or longer running ad you can - it all goes towards the cost of providing the free service!  Mind you ... fewer than 1 in 50 actually make any sort of payment Sad
