Gazza.

not sure if it is the same as the 80 series - i.e there is a fuse in the fusebox marked ABS - remove it and remove the warning light from the dash. It may be more complex on the 100 series.

yes - my wife is complaining that the brakes seem very sesnitive -- and the front passanger wheel seems to hit the ABS with alarming frequency, causing a juddering

maybe its a common "feature"

It would be unusual to have the ABS coming into operation frequently. Perhaps the nearside front disk is a bit warped or something else is not quite right with that wheel's brakes (worn pads, sticking caliper pistons, fixing pins loose)?

Just a thought

Hi Gazza

I suggest you have a fault, I have a 2004 100 series and have no problems with mine.

IIRC the ABS fuse also powers the brake-assist pump.
Did it once, and after about 20 full brake cycles I had no more brakes.  Scary.

There are certainly situations when you stop much better w/o ABS.  Particularly on loose gravel (e.g. on top of a paved surface) and on ice with studded tyres.
There is a write-up on mud about how to disable the ABS;  how to have the ABS disable when switching on CDL; and about the different programs/modes of the ABS according to H/L range, CDL & RDL.  Very useful.

Yeah got to say that my 80 series is a lot better without ABS than it was with ABS - mind you I did have a fault on a sensor so I disabled it completely. Can't say I have a lot of faith in ABS - gives you a false sense of security and makes you drive with far less margin for error. I also find that you can catch the ABS out and it not work adequately just when you need it.

However on the 80 the ABS is far simpler, taking it off really just returns the vehicle to pre 92 spec exept with big brake discs.
