Hi
recently purchased a Colorado '52 plate D4-D with 78k miles. After 20 mins or so I have noticed the vehicle lurches and loses power, when driving at steady speeds in 4th and 5th gears. It is like hitting a really strong head wind from nowhere! Speed is momentarily lost but picks back up straight away.
Any thoughts?? |

Does the problem happen every 20 mins or so in a repeating pattern?
When it looses power, how long does it last?
Is there any correlation with speed/direction/slope? ie. only happens on motorways, going up hills, turning to the left, e.t.c.
I'm just trying to establish if there is annything more to the pattern other than after 20 mins. _________________ Cheers,

Hi
Thanks for the quick reply. I have only noticed it so far at speeds of around 60 to 70 mph and when driving at a continual speed without lots of right foot. It has occured on the open road and on the flat on dual carriageways. It lasts less than a second and speed and revs are lost but recover instantaneously, without any coughing or spluttering from the engine. There doesn't seem to be any set pattern to it either and gradients do not seem to be the cause. |

Hi,
Is the any correlation with the amount of fuel in the tank?
It sounds either electrical or fuel related. Has the fuel filter been checked/changed recently? _________________ Cheers,

Not sure about fuel filter, but certainly it's happened with at least a half tank of diesel. If it's electrical, what are you thinking it might be?
Thanks! |

Hi
You dont mention if you have a management light on to register a fault code .
So to start with change your fuel and air filter , so that the engine breaths correctly and has enough fuel for everything to work correctly i.e ecu sensors that monitor and control everything,
The fault happens and clears very quickly so I would say an electrical fault , may be a breakdown in the throttle potentiometer. Or may be the cruise control if you have one .
You could go over the engine making sure everything is plugged in nice and tightly , and you can see nothing rubbed through .
If you dont get a fault code you would have to check through the sensor systems with a computor to check the values of the sensors , accelerater and cruise controls .
Good Luck |
