Jon, I presume that the life is related to the amount of time they spend pressured and moved in and out?
If they don't get much use then do the seal deteriorate naturally?

Hey, if my LC last another 15 months I'll be pleased never mind 15 years Ho Ho. It's the way I drive 'em.

I think life will be mostly number of rotations of the diff carrier or eventually just number of years till the material perishes.

Yep - it'll be a Limited Slip Diff.  The lack of a diff-lock switch on the dash just to the left of the steering wheel, next to the 'second start' switch (you have a 1.5" blank instead) will confirm, as will the sticker (if it's still there) on the rear diff cover saying LSD oil only, and no connection to a wiring loom for the actuator.

Only the LC3 came with the e-locker, and without traction control.  Interesting that they've reversed that for the 150 now!  The new LC3 comes with ATRAC and the LC5 gets a rear diff lock and ATRAC, IIRC.

Cheers

Embarassed  Embarassed I did an oil change a while back and didn't use LSD oil, just the recommended gear oil. Wonder what effect that has had. Have I just screwed my LSD? And there was no sticker that I am aware of....*beep* that anyway.

There's a thought that just strikes me...when I did remove the old oil I'm pretty sure it looked and smelt like hypoid gear oil. And I'm reasonably sure the diff was never touched prior to my getting it. Wonder was a LSD not standard on the earlier LC5s perhaps.

OK - just been having a look on PradoPoint and am now confused...

"The solution is the ARB diff lock and is a far better option as it gives you much better traction than the standard LSD( which is useless). The open diff which comes with the traction controlled models seems to be less of a problem as the electronics do all the work and work fantastically"

So unless the Oz crew get a differentg version to us (unlikely but not impossible) it seems the LC5 has an open diff???

I'm going to get the owners manual out ...  Twisted Evil

Is there an axle code on the chassis plate? If there is you can decode it using this AXLE CODES.

Cheers

" Hello, you're speaking to Samantha. How can I help you........................Oh, we don't have that information on our (apparently useless) database. Give me a contact number and we'll call you back."

Eh? WTF? This is Toyo GB and they can't even call up that basic info? C'mon. Give me a break.  scratch

There's a chap in my local dealer (spares) called Simon. Seems to enjoy digging for information. Very helpful. Can only be better than Samantha (maybe not in terms of voice / accent  Shocked )

Cheers. In fairness, not exactly Samantha's fault. Can't believe that Toyo, now No.1 in the world, can be so useless with simple stuff like this. How hard can it be?
