My father is abroad in the LC and when driving along the motorway the central diff light has come on and will not be truned off. Any ideas?

Stop the car and put in reverse and travel a few mts backward

That should cure it

He just tried that to no avail. Strange that it came on the motorway and not while they had been off road or engaging it and then it stuck on!

thanks for the suggestion.

Regards,

Rohan

Are you sure (sorry to ask) that it's the centre diff (orange) and not the rear diff (red).  If it is the rear diff, the probem is the rear diff lock relay mechanism - simple electrical component. It can fault and make it appear as though the diff is locked. This is usually coupled to a reduction in the rev limiter as you're not supposed to bomb it with the diff locked.

If it is the centre diff as you say, I doubt that there's a fuse that you can just pull to shut off the light on its own. It comes on through the mechanical throwing of the diff lever - just like your reversing light would. It must be the switch that's faulty. It's on the diff casing if I recall. Perhaps got some grunge in there. Try shoving the lever in and out of lock several times, see if you can stir something up.

take the vehicle to some loose surface and turn on full lock if the transmission shudders and scuffs at the wheels something is engaged. If all seems normal you have an electrical fault and can make an educated guess whether to ignor it. When turning corners with the off road toys on you will know about it.
