Hi guys

I have a special version of the DTC 97 (P1215) error on a diesel cruiser; The ECU kills the engine consistently when reaching about 3000 rpm when under load (does not happen when revving in neutral).

What I have done: (followed the procedure in the Toyota book)
1) Switched the EDU for another that is known working
2) Switched the ECU for another that is known working
3) Measured the voltage to the EDU, the ground, the resistance on the Spill Control Valve - all ok.
4) Rewired the connection between EDU and ECU
5) Rewired the connection between the EDU and the Spill Control Valve

It appears that the plug on the SCV itself is glued - which I've heard is a quick-fix from toyota to fix a problem where the connection in the plug itself is/becomes bad.

My thoughts are that the only thing left to change, given the DTC, is the SCV itself. But why does it fail only during load contidions and not when revving in neutral?

Do you guys have any other comments?

Nobody has had any similar problems? I think also the generator is a bit floppy, it gives only a bit above 12 volts on idle, and raises to a bit above 13 volts when hitting 2500+ RPM. Anyone heard of generators with failed diodes starts generating AC current? Could this, if it where to happen, upset the DC/DC converter in the EDU, which then delivers bad current to the valve etc?

The car has now been tested with the generator disconnected and batteries topped up. The same happened; engine dies at about 3000 rpm when accelerating. Fuel temp sensor and coolant sensor has been checked out ok.

I had the car for a test today, and suddenly I'm unable to get it to stop (it seems ok for the moment). Just a few minutes before I got the car, it had stalled regularly - but I didn't get the symptoms. This is a really tricky one.

Hi all

I exchanged the scv with another car, and then both ran just fine afterwards. I have no explanation, but problem seems solved.
