With the 16 inch rim and 265 width of tread, the book pressure is 28 psi on the front tyres and 31 on the back. I would imagine that the 18 inch rim tyres of the same width will be about the same.
I know some people here run their tyres at 35 - 40 psi but when I tried that the tyres started to wear more at the middle of the tread than on the shoulders. So, to get the best life from them I have dropped back to to standard pressures.

I found the standard pressures to be too low, but it depends how you drive the car. Having the tyres set by the book to 28psi is probably fine if you do a decent amount offroad and take it easy onroad. I tend to drive reasonably quickly on road though, so this was wearing the outsides of my tyres too fast. I upped them to 32 and found the handling to be much better. A mechanic has advised me to increase these further given the tread wear being mostly on the outside, but I suspect that's actually due to them being set too low previously and building up noticeable wear then. I'll be replacing them soon, but coming into winter here I want the pressure to be very even across the tyre at low speeds (snow here packs under the tyres and turns to lumpy ice in the sun, which results in near unrecoverable slides into fences while idling in first in low-ratio with the diffs locked - I figure I want the tyres having their tread as flat as possible rather than inflating them to balloons to help with the on-road handling). |
