|
|
Hi all,
about two months ago my newly wedded wife and I started our 'Global Honeymoon', an overland expedition across South, Central and North America with our 1992 HDJ80 LC, named Suzy. We're in doubt about which kind of Diesel we should buy here, because we have two options:
- the 'commun' with a 10.000 ppm Sulphur quantity - around 0,9 €/liter in Argentina
- and the higher quality with 10 or 50 ppm Suplhur in it - up to 1,20 €/liter, but generally around 1€/liter
So far we've driven on the commun Diesel - around 6000km without any trouble, but someone told me my car will start smoking after a while using the high sulphur Diesel. Also, according to some people mileage should improve compensating the higher price per liter.
Then again I found a thread on this forum that states that higher Sulphur rates are better for fuel pump and injectors as it has lubricating characteristics. This thread also raised the question of adding 2-stroke to my Diesel?
So, to sum up, here are my questions:
- is high sulphur diesel bad for my engine on the long run?
- does anyone known if - and so, how much - fuel consumption might improve with higher quality Diesel?
- has anyone experience in adding 2-stroke to it's Diesel for a 1992 HDJ80?
thank you for your insights!

Hi Dimitri, i add 440ml of 2 stroke mineral oil to every full tank of diesel in my LC120 i find that it improves performance a little but defiantly quietens the injector rattle and smooths the engine noise. Sorry i cant help with the rest of the questions but good luck with your journey |
